Who is Better, Shawn Micheals or Bret Hart?

These two legends had an excellent rivalry that had many great promos, and matches. It is a question that has lasted since the 1990s who is better Bret or Shawn. Wrestlingbros will give you our take…

#1 Who Was Better In Ring? Shawn Micheals.

HBK is the best in ring wrestler of all time

Shawn Micheals is the best in ring performer the world has ever seen. Bret Hart may have had an incredible technical style, but Shawn easily wins this. He had the best wrestling match in history (Micheals Vs. Undertaker, WrestleMania 25) and has an innumerable amount of matches that were 7.75/10 or above. Hart had some near perfect matches too such as when he fought Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13 (10/10 match). Shawn is untouchable in the ring and Hart knows that.

#2 Who Was Better on the Mic? Shawn Micheals.

Shawn could make a crowd hate him or love him better than Bret

Bret Hart has some incredible skills, but speaking on the mic is not one of them. Shawn, however is absolutely amazing with it. Micheals could get the crowd hyped when he was a babyface by showing off his charisma, and made the crowd hate him as a heel with his great insults. Bret Hart was boring and repetitive when speaking and had simple words to say. Shawn picks up this win EASY.

#3 Who Had a Better Gimmick? Shawn Micheals.

Shawn had more charisma and his character was more defined.

When comparing their famous personas, Shawn Michaels’ gimmick stands out for its charm, style, and emotional depth compared to Bret Hart’s more classic, skill-based presentation. As “The Heartbreak Kid,” Michaels played the confident, flashy showman—complete with dramatic entrances, eye-catching ring gear, and a rebellious attitude that strongly connected with fans in the 1990s. His character could easily switch from arrogant villain to determined underdog, which added depth to long-term storylines. While Hart’s “Hitman” persona focused on excellence, discipline, and technical ability, Michaels’ gimmick thrived on excitement, big personality, and crowd energy, making him feel like a true entertainer in an era shaped by spectacle and character-driven drama.

#4 Who was Better as a Heel? Shawn Micheals

When Micheals wanted to, he could make the crowd absolutely detest him

When it comes to being a villain, Shawn Michaels stood out because of his sharp attitude, natural confidence, and ability to get strong reactions from the crowd. As a heel, he didn’t just break the rules—he made fans truly dislike him with his smug smiles, sarcastic comments, and selfish behavior. He knew how to act arrogant without losing his charm, which made people want to see him lose even more. In contrast, Bret Hart’s heel work was more serious and focused on feeling wronged or disrespected. While that approach was powerful in its own way, Michaels’ version of a villain felt louder, more dramatic, and more entertaining, making him a more memorable and exciting heel.

#5 Who was Better as a Babyface? Bret Hart.

The Hitman got huge crowd reactions.

Bret Hart shone as a babyface with his amazing promos and personality. His charisma was unmatched because

of the amazing crowd reactions he got. Shawn Micheals was amazing as a babyface because of the excitement he got every time he walked up the ramp, but Hart won this time because of his entrance. Bret gave his signature sunglasses to a kid in the crowd and people LOVED that. If it wasn’t for the entrance Micheals would have won.
